THE EARTH IS ROUND
I know this, and yet
I’m always looking for confirmation
Birds moving against the wind
Two old ladies upstairs
shuffling past each other
in the kitchen
Imagine
the fearlessness
of loving a thing long enough
that it becomes something other
than a burden
This morning
three pigeons
Each on their stone
I look to the tribunal of animals
as if they can see my life
spread out in a line
before me
Outside,
a boy puts his finger
in the dirt
I haven't forgiven you for breaking my favorite cup
I have just forgotten
REBECCA VALLEY
