MY MUMMY PHASE

when my parents split

when we lost the cabin

and all the animals in it

and the wild blueberries

and the swamp in the woods 

I got into mummies

rented every book I could

from the library

spent whatever change

I found at the photocopier

making black and white

copies of photos of mummies

people mummies

cat mummies

crocodile mummies

a mummified ibis

a mummified monkey

I glued them all

onto a lime green

piece of posterboard

and presented them

to my 5th grade class

Did you know that

when an ancient Egyptian

lost a beloved

pet that person

would shave off

an eyebrow​​
